How to Get a Job
Bored and looking to make a little money?
Then use our job-hunting tips to speed you on your way.
Find a job:
1. Get a work permit from your school. This piece of paper is required for you to be hired.
2. Check at the local stores and other places where you shop. Often places that are hiring will have a sign up in the window. Since you are there, you can use this opportunity to fill out an application. Plus, you already know something about where you are applying to work, since you go there anyway.
3. If you are looking for a job for the summer-check out Southwest Training Services. They have programs like JTPA specifically for kids to get work experience. They pay you, but you get to work at different places around town-like the humane society, or the library.
4. Don't forget about services like PA CareerLink. Pennsylvania offers PA CareerLink as a service to its residents to help them find jobs offered in Pennsylvania. You can use their site to write a fill-in resume, and to look for jobs.
If you are too young to get a job this way, see if your parents will let you get a job babysitting, or delivering newspapers. Check with your neighbors to see if there are any jobs they will pay you to do. Always be sure to let your parents know what you are doing.
Get a Job
Now that you have filled out the application, the next step is the interview. If you have an interview wear nice clothes. This can mean different things depending on the job but don't show too much skin or have your pants around your ankles. Look at the other people working there and dress like they do, or nicer. Remember this is to impress your (hopefully) future employer.
When you have figured out what to wear, practice what you are going to say. If you are asked what your favorite subject is in school don't answer something like lunch. Instead tell them how much you enjoy stretching your mind by solving mathematical problems or something similar about your favorite subject.
Be respectful to whoever is interviewing you. Call them sir or ma'am. Don't tell them about the big mole in the center of their forehead. Treat them like you would your grandparents (if you like your grandparents). You want them to like you.

Keep Your Job
Now that you have gotten the job that you may or may not have always wanted, the next step is to keep it. It might take a little bit of work on your part, but it will be worth it when you continue to get your paycheck week after week. Besides you may find out that you even enjoy working.
To keep your job always treat your employer respectfully. This means that you are on-time, and you call if you cannot come in. You do not call off just because you want to spend some quality time with the mall. Do what your boss tells you to. If you work somewhere where you deal with customers, be nice to them.
