Shelving Rules
These are the shelving rules for non-fiction books:
All books will have a three digit number before a decimal point. Use this number to put the books in numerical order, with the smaller number books going first. This means put book 002 after 001 and before 003.
If a book has no decimal point, assume it has a point following the last number. After the point there are all zeros. For a book 002, you could make it 002.0000.
Use the number after the decimal to figure out where the book goes. If the numbers are different lengths, fill in any zeros. For example 002.3 and 002.33, make 002.3 into 002.30. Then put into order. 30 is smaller than 33 so 002.3 goes before 002.33.
If two books have exactly the same number, use the letters after the numbers to put them in alphabetical order.
If the letters are the same, put them in alphabetical order by title.
