FLENNIKEN PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Flenniken Public Library provides access to the Internet for its users who agree to the following provisions:

  • Some material on the Internet may be controversial in nature, offensive to the user, disturbing and/or illegal. Viewing of certain materials in the public library is considered improper in time, place, or manner. Use of the library’s terminals to access material containing or making reference to explicit sexual materials as defined in 18 Pa. C.S.A. § 5903 is not permitted for minors or adults.
  • The Internet workstations cannot be used for any fraudulent or unlawful purpose, including any activities prohibited under any applicable federal, Pennsylvania, or local law.
  • The Internet is a global resource with a highly diverse user population and information content. Library patrons use at their own risk. We cannot monitor or control information accessible through the Internet and cannot accept any responsibility for its content. In choosing sources to bookmark or link through our webpage, we follow generally accepted library practices.
  • Users are responsible for the cost of damaged hardware.
  • Writing to the hard disk, tampering or altering the configuration of equipment is not allowed.
  • Chatting is not allowed, including chats in game rooms.
  • Children below the 6 th grade must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when using the Internet. Minors in the 6 th grade or above, but who are not yet 18 may use the Internet without a parent or guardian present if said parent or guardian signs the minor’s Internet user agreement.
  • Parents or guardians are responsible for the information and materials accessed by minors. The library will not act in loco parentis.
  • Library card-holders must check in with a library staff member. There will be a 30 minute time limit if other patrons are waiting. The computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The library reserves the right to end an Internet session, to designate computers for specific purposes, and to set additional time limits.
  • Files may be downloaded to an external device only. Downloading of copyrighted software is prohibited and is a violation of federal law.
  • The library does not provide e-mail addresses. Patrons may use web-based e-mail or access other e-mail servers via the Internet.
  • Use of the Internet is free, however, there is a fee for printed materials.
  • No more than one person may use a computer at a time, except for a parent/child pair.
  • Violation of any rule by any person will result in suspension of Internet privileges, up to and including permanent suspension at the discretion of the library staff.
