EBSCO Host is a database that will let you search old and new magazine and newspaper articles. These are mostly of magazines and newspapers you have heard of-including Time, National Geographic, Newsweek, and even the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Because the articles were originally published in a printed format, they count as a magazine or newspaper article-even if you accessed them online. (If you have to tell a teacher where you got the information be sure to tell them the website link and the name of the magazine or newspaper.)
To search EBSCO Host first click here, or log in to POWER Library. Type in your library barcode to log in. Your barcode is the number on the back of your card. Next click on EBSCO Host.
This is the POWER Library screen! Click here to enter EBSCO Host.
After you click on EBSCO Host in POWER Library you will see a screen that will allow you to select one database. This is because EBSCO Host is the name of a company that has many databases. Click on the link that says EBSCO Host Web Interface . This link will allow you to choose which databases you would like to search. You can search as many databases on this screen as you like.
Next you need to choose which databases you would like to search. MAS Online Plus is used for magazine articles, and Newspaper Source is used to find newspaper articles. These two databases will search over 260 newspapers-including the Post-Gazette, and 350 magazines! There are more databases that might interest you so try them out.
After you click the boxes next to the databases that you would like to search, click the continue button at the top of the page. That will bring you to a search screen.
Type your subject into the Find box. If you would like to only see full text articles in the results, click the button next to Full Text. If you would only like to search for pictures, use the drop down to select text with graphic. When you are ready, click Search.
After you click search you will get a screen with results. If one of your links has a full text article with it, click on the HTML Full Text to view it. If not you can use the citation to get the article. Please see your librarian for help if you are having problems, call us at 724-966-5263, or e-mail us at flennikenlibrary@yahoo.com.
